The Bucket List: 40 before 40

When Minh turned 30, I started compiling a bucket list of 40 things I wanted to accomplish before I turned 40.  The timer started yestrday, when I turned 30 (Already? Where does the time go?). When it comes to lists, 40 is actually a bigger number than you think, but I’ve mixed it up with big and small goals in a variety of areas – travel, family, fitness, style, etc. Here goes:

The Bucket List: 40 before 40

  1. Run a marathon in under 4 hours
  2. Grow a victory garden
  3. Watch the sunrise over Machu Picchu
  4. Learn to take better photographs
  5. Have children
  6. Pose with a Moai head
  7. Summit Mount Whitney
  8. Dine at the French Laundry
  9. Hike Half Dome
  10. Conquer Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
  11. Throw a fancy dinner party
  12. Donate my hair (again)
  13. Write up a will
  14. Ride a gondola in Venice
  15. Watch all the AFI top 100 movies (no repeat watches required)
  16. Imagine the fairy tale life a Neuschwanstein Castle
  17. Read top 100 books from 2004 BBC The Big Read
  18. See the Northern Lights
  19. Ride in a hot air balloon
  20. Give stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) a try
  21. Participate in a progressive dinner party
  22. Go zorbing
  23. Finish Bucilla Christmas stockings for my family
  24. Learn to play Rhapsody in Blue on the piano
  25. Finish a Spartan Race
  26. Sew a dress for myself
  27. Sail to Catalina
  28. Cycle the Amsterdam canals
  29. Do 10 strict pull-ups
  30. Find the end of a rainbow
  31. Give raw denim a try
  32. Cycle from San Francisco to San Diego
  33. Dine in the dark
  34. Go whale watching
  35. Lay across four states at once
  36. Hike a volcano
  37. See Old Faithful
  38. Eat a spider (on purpose)
  39. Attend mass at St. Peter’s Basilica
  40. Watch a stage of the Tour de France
