Probably one of the last National Trust Properties that we’ll have time to visit, Hughenden Manor was a good choice. Home to the first (and only) Jewish Prime Minister of Great Britain, Benjamin Disraeli, Hughenden Manor is a beautiful red-brick Victorian Manor. Because of his close personal relationship with Queen Victoria, there are gifts from here ALL OVER the place, including artwork, marble statues, and a marvelously bound copy of Faust.
Recently discovered at Hughenden Manor is it’s use during World War II as a secret intelligence base known as “Hillside”. Here, the UK Air Ministry staff would analyze aerial surveillance photos and create maps that would help in the air raid campaigns across Europe, including the famous “Dambusters” raid.
